Robin Li received a Bachelor of Science degree in information management from Peking University in 1991. He later earned a Master of Science degree in computer science from the State University of New York at Buffalo in the United States. As one of the world's earliest search engine technology researchers and top engineers, Robin Li has served as a senior consultant for Dow Jones, a designer of real-time financial information systems for the online edition of The Wall Street Journal, and a senior engineer for Infoseek, an internationally recognized Internet company. Robin Li holds a patent for the "hyperlink analysis" technology, which is one of the crucial inventions that laid the foundation for the entire modern search engine industry.


In January 2000, Robin Li returned from Silicon Valley to China and co-founded Baidu. After more than two decades of development, Baidu under the leadership of Robin Li has evolved into the world's leading artificial intelligence company. On January 19, 2018, Robin Li appeared on the cover of the Asian edition of TIME magazine. The magazine described him as "the innovator" who "is helping China win the 21st century".


Robin Li has also served as a member of the 12th and 13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Vice Chairman of the 11th All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), Vice President of the 12th China Association of Private Enterprises, and Vice Chairman of the 8th Beijing Association for Science and Technology. On December 18, 2018, he was awarded the title of "Reform Pioneer" and presented with the Reform Pioneer Medal by the Party Central Committee and the State Council.
